Full 3 hr. Video: The Elegant Universe

This is a fantastic 3 hour video! Set aside 3 hours of time to be enlightened to the world of theoretical physics. I've watch this video at least 10 times already.

Watch The Elegant Universe (full-screen version)

The Elegant Universe homepage

The full-screen version plays the programs at double the regular playback size. Because this requires additional processing power, some older computers may not play the full-screen option smoothly. For technical reasons, full-screen is only available in QuickTime.
If you experience difficulty viewing, it may be due to high demand. We regret this, and suggest you try back at another time. Note that NOVA programs are not available for downloading due to rights restrictions.

Earth Pic in The Cosmos

This made me stop and think. Wow!!

Powerful words by Carl Sagan

If you look carefully at the NASA photo below, you will see a little white dot. This minute speck is Earth seen from the Voyager 1 spacecraft as it exits the solar system, nearly 4 billion miles away. The photo was taken back in 1990.
pale blue dot

Look again at that dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every “superstar,” every “supreme leader,” every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there–on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

Buddah Said

Very interesting, very true. Right is right and wrong is wrong...no matter who said it first...or what nation it was said in. Have we lost sight of this?

Buddha said:

Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. Do not believe anything because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything because it is written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and the benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.

Work on yourself—be engaged in appropriate self-improvement.
Effort should be properly balanced between trying too hard and not trying hard
enough.
Speak the truth if it is useful and timely.
  • Abstain from telling lies.
  • abandon thoughts that have to do with bringing suffering to any conscious being; cultivate thoughts that are of loving kindness, that are based on caring for others' suffering, and sympathetic joy in others' happiness.
