Burma protests


The regime crushed a pro-democracy movement in 1988, killing at least 3,000 people.

The protestors ran for safety. Riot police arrested at least 100 people.

Burmese protestors run for cover. The Burmese troops killed at least one person when they fired above the heads of protestors on Wednesday. The opposition claims five monks were killed. Eyewitnesses say at least one person has been killed on Thursday.

The Buddhist monks have been protesting for over a week, joined by thousands of pro-democracy activists in the last few days. At least 70,000 protestors gathered on Thursday before the military crackdown.
